Duck Talk

The story of Lolita and Stud Muffin

On Monday, April 11, 2011, the weather was gorgeous; the sun was shiny, the winds turned into caressing breeze, the air was crisp and clear, it was 77°.  I decided to give a visit to Central Park after work :)) As if the whole New York had the exact same urge to enjoy the day, the sun, the air to the fullest.  The Park was buzzing with children of all ages :) the birds were chirping happily, people walking nonchalantly with big happy smiles, some laying on the grass, children running and playing, dogs barking and trotting next to their owners. Colors were all around me, bright shorts and T's were the preferred attire, barefoot on the grass was the popular footwear :)

I, of course, had my camera with me.  Lately, I had decided that it was about time for me to practice my "birds shooting".  The Saturday before I had gone bird shooting with my friend, after spending all day at the park shooting anything and everything, almost none of my shots were good :(( Of course it wasn't my fault!! who's was it you ask? Not who?! what?! That stupid darn lens good for nothing, that's what!! hahahahaha!!

So on this Monday, I started at 59th street and Fifth Ave., visiting the ducks at the lake with the Gapstow Bridge.  They were few male Mallards swimming lazily, and one female (above), standing by herself on the dirt next to the fence separating her from walkers.  I said to myself, I am not taking her picture ^-^! How many of her can I have in my collection?:) But, something in the way she was standing, the look in her eyes and my love for photography to capture a moment changed my mind and she paused for me the little Lolita :)

With the corner of my eye, on my left,  I realized some action was happening in the waters. Looked towards the whoosh-whoosh hurried sounds, saw handsome Stud Muffin hurrying towards Lolita, I smiled. Love was in the air!! Well why not, I will take a shot of them

I  together :) Little I knew what I'll be witnessing!!  (some of my shots are blurred cause I was caught by surprise:(!)

As you can see thru this chronological order of images the drama that I witnessed.  An image is worth thousand words?

I thought the first Mallard above was Stud Muffin, but as you can see from the shots that follows, Lolita flew to him for safety.  But the gang were ready to mess up their life one more time, but Lolita was on her guards.  I let the photos speak for themselves.

I wished and hope Lolita was in a safe place after her escape and soon Stud Muffin will join her.

While the drama was happening,  nobody was taking any action to help Lolita,  nobody was interested or maybe didn't even see what was happening!! Between shots I was trying to find something to throw at the gang to separate them, hence my camera moving and recording some out of focus shots.  When a young lady with her young daughter passing by saw the drama of the gang attack she started screaming: "OMG, they're gonna kill her!!", somebody help!! and she too started looking for something heavy to throw to the thugs, all we could find were some dried grass and leaves.

Part 2 of this series will be posted soon.
